Last Year
The 2007 Gathering was held at Pocklington School in Pocklington, East Riding of Yorkshire. The theme was ‘Out of the Hidden Country,’ emphasising storytelling’s ability to access the hidden depths of the mind.
The Friday evening event, “Tales to Tell,” incorporated a local storytelling project, a shadow puppet play, “Thor and Loki,” created and performed by children from two local schools. There were also tellers from ‘Shaggy Dog storytellers’ from Hebden Bridge. The evening brought in 60 children and about 90 parents, introducing a lot of new people to storytelling.
We had two excellent speakers from completely different walks of life, Benedict Allen, the traveller, and Sally Pomme Clayton, well-known international storyteller. The intention was to travel over the weekend from the practical and very earthy hidden countries of Benedict’s experience to the interior world of magic and creativity of Sally’s.
We had 26 well attended workshops ranging from ‘Improve your Vocal Skills’ to ‘A Guy walks into a Bar’ - on how to include humour in your storytelling
