BIRMINGHAM STORYTELLING CAFE
SPIRIT HOUSE with POLLY TISDALL & SIPHAI THAMMAVONG.Storytelling Café welcomes back one of our most favourite storytellers, POLLY TISDALL, who opens our new Season with SPIRIT HOUSE. Developed in collaboration with Siphai Thammavong from Garavek Storytelling Theatre in Laos, both interweave British and Lao folk tales in a celebration of love and death, East and West. From tricksters to lovers to wild adventurers this collection of stories is an offering to the lands that made us and a homage to all that makes us human. In 2016, Polly spent time in Laos and came across the Garavek Storytelling Theatre where she met fellow storyteller, Siphai Thammavong. Garavek (means "magical bird") is a small company concerned with preserving and promoting local traditional stories from Laos. Stories are told to the accompaniment of the khene, a traditional folk instrument made from bamboo.POLLY TISDALL won the Young Storyteller of Year in 2011 and since then, has never looked back. She has gone on to forge a career in theatre as a director, drama facilitator as well as a performance storyteller. This project is being supported by Arts Council England and the British Council.
