The annual Scottish Storytelling Forum Development Day will focus on the role of storytelling within education and youth development.

The magic of stories and storytelling have the power to bring a curriculum to life, enabling vivid and embodied learning and understanding across multiple subject areas.

Join us for a day of peer-led opportunities, hosted at Fair Maid's House inPerth, to explore both the practical aspects of being a storyteller and bringing your stories and skills into schools, plus reflect on the art of storytelling in education practice.

  • A talk and Q&A with Sue Palmer (former primary headteacher, independent writer and consultant on primary education, author of Toxic Childhood and Chair of UpStart. Sue will share her thoughts on how stories and storytelling are an important part of creative play, how this is vital for children's mental well-being - their connections with others, their development and why we should place emphasis on this rather than academic targets.
  • A taster session in Growing and Developing Your Own Story: PR, Social Media and Branding.
  • Peer-led opportunities and group discussions on topics such as: Storytelling in Young Adult education, Sensory Storytelling for children with additional needs, Storytelling and the outdoor classroom and a Secondary teacher's guide as a storyteller in education.
  • Lunch and refreshments provided.

Please note: The annual Storytelling Forum AGM will take place after the final group activity. As a forum member, you are entitled to attend and vote on the election of new forum committee members.

Change of date: Due to unforeseen circumstances this event will now be held on Sat 23 June, not Sat 9 June as initially advertised.  Apologies for any confusion.
